Welcome to the Embed Project.
The concept of Institutional Repositories is still relatively new and almost all the repositories established to date in Higher Educational Institutions are struggling to achieve a critical mass of content.
Currently there are two models (not mutually exclusive) for increasing content:
- through self-archiving
- or via a mediated service (often provided by the Library).
Advocates of self-archiving argue that this is the best way of achieving the necessary buy-in to ensure that repositories are embedded in research, teaching and learning processes. However, in contrast to the use of departmental or personal pages, self-archiving at the end of the article-preparation process is perceived as adding to the workload of researchers and/or their administrative nominees, and this could be one of a number of disincentives which are slowing the growth of repository content.
The aim of the Embed project is to increase understanding of how repositories can be used to support research and learning, integrating them fully into academic processes.
